Just East of Ensenada, Mexico on the Baja Peninsula, sits Horsepower Ranch – a 100-acre facility that has hosted countless off-road racers, fans and race teams for years. The Ranch will be getting a little TLC thanks to a Southern California investment group that is being led by former Horsepower Ranch founding partner, Todd Clement and entrepreneur Adrian Hoyle that purchased the property on August 19th of this year.

Hopefully this means cleaning up the place without losing the charm and history that legendary off-road racers have left behind as a symbol of Baja’s greatness. If you’ve ever seen the Dust to Glory documentary, you know how important Horsepower Ranch is to the off-road racing community and it’s pretty easy to see why.

“Our group felt strongly that keeping Horsepower Ranch – not only alive, but in a position to thrive, was the right move from both a cultural and business perspective. The place has a special magic. We want to insure that legacy continues for generations to come." Clement said.

With a statement like that our anxiety was alleviated, knowing that the investment group plans on keeping the Horsepower Ranch an off-road racing destination. It just wouldn’t be right to take away the rustic charm that the famed ranch has to offer.

The hacienda-style ranch currently includes 50 guest rooms, a pool, a great room and the most popular spot – the “Carrera Cantina” which has been a favorite for many racers, fans and locals to enjoy a cold frosty beverage or two. With growing travel in the area thanks to the regions soon-to-be-completed Wine Corridor, ambitious plans to transform the property into a full-service destination resort will get underway with much needed improvements to be completed before the Baja 1000 this November.

There’s no official word yet on what exactly will be done to the property but we are still looking forward to the upgrades that are planned. While there’s just something special about the generator shutting off after last call at the bar and stumbling to your room, a little modernization will make the stay a little plusher. If you’ve never traveled to this Baja hangout, you really owe it to yourself to make the journey – you never know who you might end up sharing a frosty cerveza with!
