We’ve been waiting years for Jeep to build a pickup version of the Wrangler after drooling over both the Jeep Gladiator concept and the Wrangler JK8 pickup Mopar conversion. With any luck, we might be seeing one in a few years’ time if a recent quote from Jeep’s president is any indication.
Jeep is currently working on the next-generation Wrangler, which is due around 2016, and one of the ideas the Jeep brass has been kicking around is the addition of a pickup version of the Wrangler, according to Mike Manley, President of Jeep.
“I’m a big fan of a Wrangler-based pickup,” Manley told Bloomberg News during the press days for the 2013 Geneva auto show. “The U.S. market would probably be the main source of demand for the model, followed by the Middle East.”
Well there it is, straight from the head honcho’s mouth!
While it remains to be seen if it indeed comes to pass, we’re willing to bet that if Jeep enthusiasts voice their opinions, it will finally go from the kicking around stage to the development stage and we’ll see an all-new production Wrangler pickup wheeling the slick rock of Moab!
