Jeep owners, on average, pay less for insurance than most drivers, according to a report from Insure.com. The industry analysts at Insure compared data from all 50 states and some 2,300 vehicle models to craft its list of the 10 least expensive vehicles to insure, and Jeep took an impressive four spots on the list.

At number four, the Jeep Patriot Sport 2WD has an average premium of $1,180, while the Jeep Wranger Sport follows right behind at $1,181. The next spot on the list is occupied by the Jeep Compass Sport 2WD at $1,190, and another Jeep appears in ninth place at $1,203, the Cherokee Sport 2WD. Rounding out the Top 10 is the Nissan Frontier S King Cab, and also appearing on the list are the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, and Buick Encore Sport Touring.

In the past, the cheapest vehicles to insure have been small, inexpensive cars, but in recent years, crossovers and family vehicles have been making inroads. The 10-vehicle list is comprised of seven crossovers, two minivans, and a pickup, with nary a compact car to be seen. One reason for this is the likelihood (or lack thereof) of owners of utility vehicles to speed. Additionally, the Frontier and three of the Jeeps have been in production in their current form since the last decade, making repair parts and availability very inexpensive.
