After recently reducing entry fees for the growing UTV class by $1,000, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) has just added a stock UTV class to the 2016 NORRA Mexican 1000 Rally. With reduced entry fees and a new stock UTV class, anyone with a UTV in their garage can race in one of the coolest and most fun off-road races around.
All that’s required to race in the stock UTV class is window safety nets and five-point harnesses. Stock UTVs are allowed to have common bolt-on accessories that are widely available at local retailers. Parts include wheels (no larger than 15 inches), tires (no bigger than 30-inches), shocks, exhaust systems, computer tunes, and suspension seats. The stock suspension mounting locations and arms must be retained and the track width may not be altered, except by the wheel or tire change. Brakes, steering, and drivetrain (except tune and exhaust) must remain stock. Aftermarket cages and fuel cells are allowed but not required.
If you’ve been anting to get into off-road racing and love adventure, but don’t have a huge race team budget, then enter your UTV in the 2016 NORRA Mexican 1000 Rally and you can race the same course as the fullsize trucks and cars. This year’s rally takes place April 23-27, and you can register to race at norra.com.
