Driver Behind “Urban Assault” Video Receives Jail Time - VideoPosted in News on March 15, 2016
Blake Wilkey, the driver behind the viral video “Urban Assault: San Diego Shark Attack” where he drives his supercharged V8 powered Baja Bug around the street of San Diego, was recently sentenced to 49 days in jail.
After posting the video on YouTube earlier this year that shows him blasting through the streets of San Diego like they were the Glamis dunes, local law enforcement charged Wilkey with numerous counts of reckless driving, exhibition of speed, and conspiracy to commit a crime. He pled guilty to the charges, which resulted in a 49-day sentence where he will spend two weekends in jail and the rest on electronic home detention. Mark Skeels, prosecutor for the City Attorney's Office, said “Wilkey deserves jail time for putting lives at risk with the kind of driving he did. Wilkey's sentence is fair.”
In addition to the sentence from the judge, Wilkey may also lose his drivers license for six months due to DMV regulations.
Next time you want to make a video like BJ Baldwin, think twice about doing on the city streets without the right permit or just keep the shenanigans to the dirt.
