Flashback Friday: AMC Concept Vehicles We’re Glad Never HappenedPosted in News on March 11, 2016
We’ve seen your comments about the 2016 Easter Jeep Safari (EJS) Jeep concept vehicles. As usual, these concept vehicles evoke a sort of love/hate relationship among even the most ardent Jeep fans. This year, Jeep has presented a bit of everything ranging from a compact pickup truck based on the Renegade to the fire-breathing supercharged 6.2L V-8 Hellcat-powered TrailCat based on the Wrangler.
However, if you think any of these new concept vehicles from Jeep are a little “off into left field,” take a look at some of the concepts that have come before. For instance, there was the AMC Concept 80, a weird mixture of mini-van and Pacer shown in 1977. Or how about the Jeep II that was shown the same year? The Jeep II was a downsized concept that looked more like a “resort car” than an off-road capable rig (compare it to the CJ of the day in the illustration). And then there was the Jeep XJ001 concept from 1969. What were these guys thinking? Now what do you think of the most recent Jeep concepts? Not so “out there,” eh?
