The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon is a very capable rig straight from the German factory; it even performed solidly in the 2016 Petersen 4x4 of the Year competition. The lucky folks in Europe were introduced to the G500 4x4² that makes the stock G550 look like a Scion XB and, according to the team at Motor1.com, this go-anywhere SUV will grace America with its presence soon.

We all know the G-Class Wagon is an off-road machine with three locking diffs, a decent amount of ground clearance, and plenty of power, and the G500 4x4² improves on that for improved off-road prowess. With a suspension lift installed on the G500 4x4², the engineers at Mercedes were able to stuff a 36-inch tire underneath this beast, which means an obligatory upgrade to 37-inch tires if we ever get our hands on one. With the 4.0L twin-turbocharged V-8, moving this taller SUV on larger meats won’t be an issue.

The portal axle technology from the beastly Mercedes 6x6 gives the G500 4x4² plenty of ground clearance—nearly 18 inches—allowing very few obstacles to get in the way of this steel-bodied beast. The G500 4x4² isn’t even afraid of water. With a fording depth of more than 3 feet, Mother Nature would have a hard time halting this Merc.

Since it is a Mercedes-Benz, the exterior was styled with bold lines, a new front fascia, and color options that will be sure to grab everyone’s attention. The interior is just as luxurious as the S-class lineup, allowing you to wheel till your heart’s content in the utmost comfort.

If and when the G500 4x4² makes it to the United States, it will give Mercedes a G-Class lineup with three badass machines, including the ultra powerful G63 AMG version, which pumps out a massive 621 hp.

According to Bart Herring, general manager for product planning in the U.S., the G-Class will be staying in America for the long-term, and M-B is very close to a decision on the sale of the G500 4x4². We sure hope that decision is sooner than later so we can get our hands on one of these beasts and get to the dirt pronto!
