Ford Lays Waste to Desert Obstacles in New F-150 Raptor Video

As if we weren’t already crossing the days off on our calendars, Ford thinks it needs to amp up anticipation for the 2017 F-150 Raptor. Today, the company’s Ford Performance arm released a YouTube video of the Raptor playing in the desert. Check out the antics below.

Obviously, this is a promotional video, so it’s going to show the Raptor in its best light. But still, the way it effortlessly drops into ditches, pounds down whoops, dispatches dunes, and crawls up canyon trails is incredibly impressive. The new Raptor is slightly larger all around than the model it replaces, but thanks to its lighter weight and some very clever suspension tuning, it looks like it can handle itself in almost any terrain.

We’ve spilled an almost undue amount of ink explaining why the Raptor is going to be so cool, but here it all is again. First, it’s going to sport an EcoBoost V-6 engine that promises more power and torque than the outgoing SVT Raptor’s 6.2L V-8. That means at least 412 hp and 435 lb-ft. That additional muscle will have less fat to go along with it, thanks to the 2017 Raptor’s 500-pound weight loss compared to the 2014 Raptor. A trick transfer case will have all-wheel and four-wheel-drive operation, and beefier suspension bits will offer greater travel than their predecessors. Amazing.

Of note, we’re surprised how nice it looks in Oxford White. White is a love-it-or-hate-it color for this author, and combined with the Raptor’s grey rocker panels, bumpers, and wheels, it looks pretty darn good.
