Ultra4 Racer Lucas Murphy’s 2016 KOH Journey is Anything But Typical - VideoPosted in News on May 19, 2016
Ultra4 racecar driver, Lucas Murphy, of Murphy’s Law Motorsports isn’t your typical desert racer, residing nearly 3,000 miles from the Southern California desert, which means training and traveling are quite a challenge. Murphy’s title sponsor, Optima Batteries, followed his journey from his home in Boston to the dirt and rocks of Johnson Valley California for the 2016 King of The Hammers race, showing what kind of commitment it takes to be a competitive off-road racer.
Racing is all about slamming the skinny pedal to the floor, but years of practice, a properly prepped rig, and plenty of skill go into driving a high-horsepower beast through the treacherous terrain that is the desert. Follow Murphy’s journey as he preps his buggy in his 20x25-foot shop at home, tests it in the snow, and loads up the trailer for a coast-to-coast journey just days before the 2016 King of the Hammers race.
With a 2016 KOH race packed with challenges from getting to the race and a mistake in qualifying, Lucas Murphy still managed to finish the race. Watch his journey below before, during, and after the world’s toughest one-day off-road race.
