This Restored 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ43 is Ready for the Copperstate Overland RallyPosted in News on June 28, 2016
This numbers-matching 1981 FJ43 has been meticulously restored, thanks to the team at The FJ Company, and will be up for auction at this year’s Gooding & Company Pebble Beach Auctions August 20-21, 2016, and include more than just this awesome Toyota. This FJ started its life as a workhorse for a Columbian energy company hauling workers to remote locations and was in good shape with the original 2F engine and a mostly rust-free body, but the frame-off restoration completed by the FJ company has this rig looking better than when it left Japan.
This FJ was built for one awesome event: the 2nd annual Cooperstate Overland Rally. This awesome event brings off-road enthusiasts together in the picturesque landscape of Arizona for a four-day on- and off-road rally where this FJ43 and its new owner will have the trip of a lifetime. The Cooperstate Overland Rally is a first-class experience all the way, and knowing that this Toyota would be attending the 2016 rally, The FJ Company left no bolt untouched.
Since the FJ43 was in good shape for being 35 years old, the plans for the build were reliability, safety, and comfort, and The FJ Company nailed it. The original 2F engine was rebuilt and reinstalled backed by a new five-speed transmission and an aluminum radiator for improved cooling. The ride and handling performance were greatly improved thanks to a new Old Man Emu suspension and the 33-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrains.
The Interior was upgraded but still has that classic Land Cruiser feel. A set of leather Corbeau MOAB seats were added, along with optional four-point harness for staying strapped in. The leather continues onto the rear fold down seats and door panels adding a touch of luxury this FJ never had. A rollcage and fire extinguisher system were added to keep the driver and passenger safe while off-road.
The exterior of the FJ was restored perfectly, and with a new soft top and a fantastic paint job in Olive 637, the FJ is ready to blend into the Arizona desert. The only other exterior upgrades are a front-mounted Warn winch, a set of PIAA off-road driving lights, and a Hi-Lift Jack keeping this FJ as it should be: clean and simple.
If you want a chance to own this 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ43, you can place your bid in person or over the Internet at goodingco.com on August 20-21 during the 2016 Gooding & Company Pebble Beach Auction. If this awesome FJ alone isn’t enough for you to want to bid, the winner will also get a fully paid entry into this year’s Cooperstate Overland Rally with full mechanical support.
