Dustin Nelson, Corry Weller Take Home Lucas Oil Honors in Yamaha YXZ1000RPosted in News on October 10, 2016
Dustin Nelson won the Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Racing Series of Southern California’s Production 1000 class, with Corry Weller taking Second Place in the same series. Both drivers enjoy factory support from Yamaha for their YXZ1000R side-by-sides, giving the company an extra feather in its cap thanks to the drivers.
Nelson took the Production 1000 class with 430 points in the series standings, making him the only driver to cross the 400 mark. Weller took home 397 points in the series, with six podium finishes and a handful of wins. Yamaha was keen to point out that between the two of them, its YXZ1000R took home top honors in every race, with Weller winning the races in which Nelson took Second.
Neither driver is done, however, with both Nelson and Weller competing in the Lucas Oil Regional Series in Arizona. Nelson is currently leading that series, with Weller in Second at the moment. Weller won The Off-Road Championship Series’ Pro Stock UTV Championship last month in the YXZ1000R.
Yamaha is understandably proud of the debut performance of what it calls “the world’s first and only pure sport side-by-side.” In a quote supplied by the company, Nelson gave some credit to the YXZ1000R’s responsive, fully manual transmission for the win. The five-speed is also available as a clutchless, paddle-operated gearbox for those buyers who can’t or don’t want to drive stick in their side-by-sides. The so-named YXZ1000R Sport Shift was announced last month.
