Yamaha Adds Sport Shift Model to 2017 YXZ1000R LineupPosted in News on February 6, 2017 0) (
Yamaha shook up the side-by-side world in 2015 with the introduction of the YXZ1000R, a high-performance side-by-side that utilized a true manual transmission instead of the more common CVT transmissions that dominate the segment. The YXZ had an automotive-style three-pedal arrangement for the five-speed sequential manual transmission, offering a sportier and more engaging driving experience. However, even with the familiar three-pedal setup, there are many that have no experience driving a traditional manual transmission. To make the thrills of piloting the YXZ off-road more accessible to a broader audience, Yamaha is introducing the YXZ1000R Sport Shift.
The Sport Shift system employs an automatic clutch mechanism and paddle shifters on the steering wheel, allowing for “no-lift” shifts. The company claims the lack of a belt makes the transmission more durable than competitors’ CVTs. Like all YXZ1000Rs, the Sport Shift features a three-cylinder 998cc engine and twin-wall Fox 2.5 Podium X2 shocks, aiding low-speed ride comfort and delivering high performance during aggressive driving. The YXZ’s suspension allows up to 16.2 inches of front and 17 inches of rear suspension travel. The 2017 YXZ1000R Sport Shift SE starts at $22,699 and will be available at dealers later this month. Available colors at launch will be Matte Carbon and black. All YXZ models are built at Yamaha’s plant in Kennesaw, Georgia.
