What started as Marines racing army Jeeps in the Pacific Islands during World War II has morphed into what we know as the 2018 Yokohama National Off-Road Racing Association’s (NORRA) Mexican 1000.
For 51 years, racers have pitted themselves against 1,300 miles of the Baja peninsula on a five-day course running from Ensenada to San Jose Del Cabo. Yokohama Tire Corporation has joined the race this year as the official title sponsor of the Mexican 1000.
“The Mexican 1000 is a classic Baja off-road rally,” said Fardad Niknam, Yokohama Tire director of segment development. “It’s a fun event for racers and lots of enthusiasts. As the title sponsor, we are excited and proud to partner with NORRA and continue our commitment to the off-road community.” Yokohama plans on showcasing the Geolandar tire line at the event, which includes the Geolandar M/T G003 mud-terrain tire, a well-known staple in the off-road community.
“It’s fantastic to partner with Yokohama,” said Mike Pearlman, NORRA president. “We welcome them aboard and I’m sure all the Mexican 1000 fans and racers do, too.”
Race fans can join the fun in Ensenada beginning on April 20, 2018, with pre-event festivities before the Mexican 1000 race starts April 22.
