MAD Industries Builds 2018 Raptor for Ford’s SEMA Display - #TENSEMA17Posted in News on October 26, 2017
If you haven’t yet heard of Chris Mangum’s Mangum Automotive Designs (MAD), get ready for a pleasant surprise. MAD builds show trucks, cars, boats, and motorcycles for automotive and accessory companies as well as private clients. MAD has produced some epic builds in the past, but the company’s pair of 2018 Ford Raptors takes the cake.
Chris and his team at MAD create show vehicles that make people think, “I could drive that right out of the booth.” They don’t just slap on flashy graphics and a set of wheels and tires and call it a day. The secret to the MAD touch is attention to detail, and these raptors emphasize that to the extreme.
From complete audio system upgrades to carefully applied clear paint protection all the way around, Chris wanted to make sure that the trucks embody not only the functionality off-road that the Raptor is known for, but the luxury and longevity that a buyer wants out of a hundred thousand dollar daily driver. The carbon fiber accent kit and body color bumpers add tasteful excitement to the exterior without being too flashy. Custom fender flares with a bit of extra width match the 20-inch wheels and 35-inch mud terrains. The black Raptor rolls on MHT FF51 wheels and the white one has FF48s designed by Chris himself, who is sponsored by MHT. Two fullsize spares and a jack mounted in the bed on custom-built bed racks mean that these trucks can actually be pushed to the limit and still roll away after a desert blowout. True to form, Chris built custom brackets for the Rigid foglights that peek through the front bumper because he wanted an absolutely perfect fit.
The black Raptor came from the factory with Ford’s performance package, and both trucks have Whipple’s Stage 1 Ecoboost power kit adding 70 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque to the already ripping 3.5L V-6. Don’t let the luxurious interiors fool you; these rigs are built to move.
Every piece of interior plastic on the MAD Raptors is pulled and painted, creating a unique and seriously classy vibe. Perforated Alcantara and leather seats and rewrapped steering wheels are stitched to match each truck’s color scheme, plus the pedals and even the floor mats are custom. Every tiny detail of MAD’s builds is meticulously thought over, and only the highest quality accessories are acceptable, all the way down to the top-of-the-line window tint film. The white Raptor will be at the LEER’s SEMA booth, and will sell for around $140,000. Ford asked Chris if they could display the 150 grand black MAD Raptor at their SEMA booth, so you know where to go for a better look at these beasts. With two Ford Best of Show awards and 28 other awards for their builds, you can expect to see a lot more from MAD in the future.
