2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Pricing Revealed in Leaked Info Sheet

Long the bastion of leaked documents and exclusive information, JL Wrangler Forums might have just proved that the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL will start at $26,195. The information comes courtesy of several screenshots from an iPad, reportedly sourced by one of Jeep’s brand reps from the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. This information is largely unverified, but we'll have Jeep-sourced official pricing (and driving impressions) sometime next week.

The Wrangler will be sold in both JK and JL generations for the first few months of 2018, but the JL will be a bit more expensive than the lame-duck JK, as shown below. As you may notice, the Sahara trim level is only available on the long-wheelbase Unlimited, so say goodbye to the luxury two-door when the Wrangler JK goes out to pasture sometime next year. Note: the destination charge for all versions of the 2018 Wrangler is set at $1,095.

In addition to the pricing information, the leaked documents also reveal the power and efficiency specs for the late-availability 2.0L turbocharged I-4, which will add $2,000 to the price. Thanks to a standard belt-starter generator system that provides mild hybrid assist, the little turbo four will produce 268 hp and 295 lb-ft, achieving 21 city/24 highway mpg. Those numbers compare fairly well to the Wrangler’s standard 3.6L V-6, which will produce a stouter 285 hp, but less torque at 260 lb-ft, with fuel economy pegged at 18 city/23 highway mpg.

The 2.0L engine is also capable of the same towing ratings as the V-6: 2,000 pounds for the Wrangler and 3,500 pounds for the Wrangler Unlimited. DIYers will be disappointed, however, to learn that the I-4 comes exclusively with an eight-speed automatic. Conversely, the V-6 comes with a six-speed manual as standard, with the eight-speed auto optional.

Regardless of which engine powers the JL, the extra coin will likely be worth it. The new Wrangler is comprehensively better than the JK it replaces, with a much-improved interior, substantially better fuel economy, and stouter powertrain components for improved durability off-road. Redesigned steering and suspension bits provide greater maneuverability and better ground clearance, and the Rubicon models now come standard with 33-inch tires compared to the 32-inchers of the JK. Newly available content includes an optional 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system, although even the base 5-inch Uconnect screen is a big upgrade from the current Wrangler.

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL will hit dealers early next year. In the meantime, head over to JL Wrangler Forums to get a look at the leaked docs.
