The organizers of the Mint 400 race and Republic Services are cleaning up the Nevada desert. Republic Services is a recycling company that specializes in recycling and hazardous waste disposal. The 2019 Mint 400 Desert Clean-Up presented by Republic Services event is set for March 2 in Jean, Nevada, at 10 a.m.
The goals of the event are to promote responsible land use and remove illegally dumped trash from the Nevada desert. The Southern Nevada BLM office is also involved in the event and applauds the efforts of both the Mint 400 and Republic Services. The off-road community is asked to participate in the cleanup.
The event started in 2017, and 14.4 tons of waste was removed from the Nevada desert. In 2018, volunteers nearly doubled that number, removing 22.6 tons of trash. This year they are expecting to increase the amount of volunteers and trash removed.
Participants in the cleanup will receive an official limited-edition T-shirt. They will also be entered into a raffle that includes thousands of dollars in donated off-road parts and accessories from industry leaders. Additional raffle tickets will be sold on-site with proceeds going to the cleanup effort.
Anyone wishing to participate is asked to bring warm clothes, your own drinks and snacks, and a pair of work gloves to protect your hands. Participants can register for the cleanup here.
