Unlimited desert trucks can now say they have raced at King of The Hammers. This week marked the inaugural T1 Desert Invitational. The criteria- own a 900-hp desert truck, be a big name desert racer and be on the exclusive invite list. Four-wheel drive optional!
24 of the fastest unlimited drivers battled it out just outside of Hammertown for bragging rights and a huge check. The trucks normally found racing terrain in Baja faced a tight, technical and challenging course. A course so challenging, that 16 competitors did not even make it to the finish line.
Veteran desert racers such as Robby Gordon, Cameron Steele, the Herbsts and even television star Jesse James were on the elite invite list.
Luke McMillin was the big winner in the Desert Invitational. He came away with a $100,000 check plus bonus money from BF Goodrich. “It’s great to put the big blue M on the podium”, said McMillin. A total of $125,000 in prize monies were handed out for the race.
The final event for King of the Hammers week is the main race. Over 100 competitors will compete for the “King” title. Only 7 competitors have actually won the race, several crowned multiple times.
