We've been telling you about the all-new 2014 General Motors 1/2-ton 4x4 pickups, but what we didn't know was what kind of fuel economy they would produce. Now we know. GM has put out a press release stating that the GM 1500 pickups equipped with the new 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8 engine (which is expected to power three out of four GM 1500 pickups) achieves EPA estimates of 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway.    GM says this EPA estimate gives them the best V-8 pickup truck fuel economy in the industry. GM also notes that this EPA estimate is better than the EPA estimate for the '13 Ford EcoBoost Turbocharged V-6. The new 5.3L GM engine is SAE certified at 355hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. It uses direct injection, cylinder deactivation, and variable valve timing.
