New Shelby SVT Raptor Unveiled at New York Auto ShowPosted in News on April 4, 2013 Comment (0)
Shelby American has just unveiled it's latest creation at the 2013 New York auto show and all we can say is that it's bad ass! How bad ass, 575 horsepower to be exact! Shelby has now made what was already a fun desert truck into a full blown desert monster that will blow the doors off most off-road trucks! Now, we must admit that this is a $18,000 aftermarket upgrade (hey, it's only money!) that you have to make to your 2013 and up SVT Raptor after purchasing it. But it's a small price to pay for a truck that will not only blast through whooped-out desert two tracks at high speeds, but also do so with a Shelby/Whipple supercharger that will push the power levels high enough to be able to powerslide the Raptor through major sand washes with ease. Not only do they offer it with a supercharger, they also upgrade the wheels to unique Shelby Method Race wheels with BF Goodrich KM2 Mud Terrains for added traction in the slop. We can only hope Ford ends up offering this as a factory option with a warranty like they do with the Mustang Shelby GT500. That being said, we're pretty sure warranties don't cover being a total *** off-road like some of the frame-bending Raptor owners who don't seem to understand that bump stops are the limit of travel and anything beyond that is just asking to lawn dart their truck across the desert. Raptors are fast but they aren't purpose built race trucks. So what do you think about the 575 horsepower Shelby SVT Raptor? Should Ford offer it straight off the showroom floor?
