Every year the absolutely epic Dakar Rally starts just after New Years, sending racers on a massive journey across South America. The legendary race is the longest of its kind in the world, and is known for breaking even the best of men and machines with its 5,000-mile length and 14 days of competition. If the huge expanses of desert and massive dunes don’t claim a competitor, the lack of sleep and mental stress will. It is truly an awesome experience and a huge test of will, endurance, skill and even luck. Of course every year, like the majority of people, we don’t get to go. Due to the cost to attend, its South American location, the length of the race and the fact that we have real jobs, we are unhappily left behind. Thankfully for us, the well-known Blue C advertising agency heads up the Monster Energy X-raid MINI team’s media efforts, sending our own Boyd Jaynes and others to capture many stunning photographs and videos. Every day during the race they feed us their photos to help us live vicariously through others, follow the race remotely and daydream about Dakar. Being privileged to enjoy what is some of the best photography of the race and a behind-the-scenes look at the winning Monster Energy X-raid MINI team, we couldn’t just keep it to ourselves. What follows is a collection of stunning imagery from this year’s Dakar, captured by some of the very best photographers. We are already counting the days to 2014’s marathon rally raid.
