Towing Aluminum Utility Trailers - '07 ATC Concours Series - TechPosted in Product Reviews on July 1, 2007
In the May '07 issue of Off-Road, you read about Aluminum Trailer Co. (ATC) toy haulers. We were so impressed with the quality of ATC trailers, we went over to Poulsen Trailer Sales in Logan, Utah, and ordered an 18-foot '07 ATC Concours Series Open Car Hauler, or aluminum flatbed trailer for the rest of us. After all, our projects need to be transported in style, right?
As we mentioned in the first feature, ATC trailers are built in Nappanee, Indiana. They are world-class aluminum trailers that are some of the finest we've ever seen. The Nappanee area has a substantial Amish community, and the Amish workers at ATC subscribe to a work ethic and standard of quality that shows in the trailers they build. All ATC trailers, whether they're toy haulers or open haulers, are built using all-aluminum, all-tube construction that's strong and lightweight.
Our open hauler has twin 3,500-pound torsion axles with four-wheel electric brakes and an 8.5x18-foot extruded aluminum bed including the beavertail. Strong 60-inch ramps store in their own lockable compartment, although with our vehicles we usually don't need to use them, especially with the beavertail on this trailer. The Concours Series comes with a front 6-inch railing, removable aluminum fenders, rear stabilizer jacks, and a flip-down license-plate holder. They also come with radial tires and a breakaway switch that applies the brakes if the trailer separates from the tow vehicle. We added the optional in-bed spare-tire carrier with spare tire and five aluminum wheels to complete the package.
The ATC trailer tows so well that we forget it's behind us. We're sure you, as an enthusiast, understand why sometimes we get caught just staring at it - it's so good-looking. The quality of its all-aluminum construction, light weight, and towability places the ATC Concours Series Open Car Hauler in a class of its own.
