One multi-tool in hand is worth two tools in the garage. And in the case of some innovative gear, one could be worth a whole toolbox. While we won’t go that far to apply the latter phrase to the Get-A-Way Driver, we are certainly pleased it’s packed with so much versatility in its teeny frame.
The Get-A-Way Driver is ideal equipment to bring on the trail if you need to lighten your cargo, but still need a convenient tool in your pocket or on your belt. Take a look at our unscientific testing below and see if it fits your needs.
Handle Length: 3.75 inches
Handle Thickness: half inch
Weight: 1.9 oz
This multi-tool’s primary purpose is to function as a screwdriver. It comes with four hex bits (two flatheads and two Phillips), each of which can be removed from inside the Zytel handle and inserted into the bit adapter on the end.
For more torque, you can pull out the adapter and insert it in the hex wrench near the end of its stainless steel base. Plus, it accepts most standard hex bits—including Torx and Allen—so you can further boost the Get-A-Way Driver’s everyday versatility.
The stainless steel base has a 10mm wrench and an oxygen wrench. For those who are four-wheelin’ out in the sticks, the latter wrench could be the difference between a routine ’wheelin’ expedition and a dire situation.
You can also crack open can lids and bottles by using the carabiner tab and prying upward. (Side note: Clip the carabiner to your belt loop or backpack for easy carry.
Design and Construction
CRKT always excels in designing groundbreaking gear both for outdoor enthusiasts and wrench-heads, and the Get-A-Way Driver is another example of innovation through simplicity.
However, it sports a “Made in China” label, which always makes us cautious of a product’s durability. Case in point: the ball detent that keeps our hex adapter in the handle popped out; we recovered the spring, but the tiny silver ball was never to be seen again.
Opposite the screwdriver adapter is the LED flashlight, a convenient accessory that we don’t often find in multi-tools—so it’s definitely a welcomed feature. Though its beam isn’t adjustable, it’s certainly bright. You can use it to peer under the hood if you have a nighttime repair job or need to find your way to the campfire after dusk.
The LED flashlight will also last longer than traditional bulbs, and it can’t accidentally drain in your pocket because the light goes off when you release the button.
The Get-A-Way Driver packs numerous functions in a small, convenient handle—making it an ideal aid for all sorts of situations on the trail, at the campsite, or in the home. Construction quality notwithstanding, the affordable price and versatility makes this a cool little multi-tool.
