Con-Ferr Products has been around for ages, and over the years has made everything from toolboxes to bumpers for 4x4s, but one of the company's most recognized products is its roof racks. Used by expedition wheelers, SWAT teams, and canoe-toting trucksters, the square-tube carryall with trademarked round porthole braces has shown up everywhere since the '60s, but it's finally time for a change.
The new design is made with 1-inch round tube with 16-gauge (1/16-inch) wall thickness. This makes for a lightweight yet strong structure that can support more than 250 pounds. The round hole supports are still there, as well as a strong floor design, and it's available in various sizes for almost any 4x4. But it now has a more sleek angled look. We stopped by Con-Ferr's Burbank, California, facility and had one on a new Hummer H3 in minutes. Now if we could just paint the Hummer desert-tan we'd be ready to cross the Kalahari.
