Safety Wire Pliers - Tool of the Month

Safety wire pliers aren't as essential as socket wrenches, but once you discover how useful safety wire is for preventing and fixing problems, you won't want to use anything but this tool for installing safety wires. They're available in 6- and 9-inch sizes in professional and economy grades. We've got a pair of 9-inch economy-grade pliers and are extremely happy with them.

What's the main difference between safety wire pliers and standard locking pliers? Safety wire pliers incorporate a shaft that twists the pliers as you pull. This makes it easy to twist the wire, an operation you must perform many, many times while installing safety wire. In addition to the twisting mechanism, safety wire pliers include a wire cutter. You won't need to reach for wire cutters, then reach for locking pliers, and then spend time twisting the pliers. Safety wire pliers save time and hassle. Prices at press time started at about 20 bucks. Happy twisting!
