Polaris TerrainArmor Non-Pneumatic TirePosted in Product Reviews on January 30, 2014 Comment (0)
The Polaris’ TerrainArmor Non-Pneumatic Tire (NPT) made its way from military vehicles to the consumer market on the Polaris Sportsman WV850 H.O. ATV. Now it’s been nominated for Tire Technology of the Year by Tire Technology International.
Here are just a few of the features of this ground-breaking tire: The TerrainArmor is able to maintain operability after sustaining tire damage that would typically destroy a pneumatic tire. It provides peak performance at full vehicle payload, absorbs terrain similar to a pneumatic tire and gains optimal traction with the deep 90 degree cut lugs. This configuration eliminates the need for an on-vehicle spare; minimizing logistical support and tire maintenance while increasing the available payload. Testing of the TerrainArmor has proven a capacity of 6000-plus miles at full combat load, 1000-plus miles with railroad spikes driven directly through it, 1000-plus miles after being shot by a M4 or AK47, and 350-plus miles after being shot by a .50 caliber rifle!
The Tire Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence will be presented in Cologne, Germany, on February 11.
The new tire is a game changer for off-road enthusiasts. Want to bet we’ll soon see something like this in larger sizes for full-size 4x4s?
