7. To test the new wheels, we went with a 37x12.50R17LT Mickey Thompson MTZ. We’ve tested the MTZ in the past and have found the modern mud-terrain radial to be a very predicable tire over desert two-tracks and rocky terrain. As is the case with most tires, the MTZ especially shines in the single digit territory under our Wrangler. Depending on the type of mud you are wheeling in, the MTZ will either work well or require lots of wheelspin to keep them cleaned out. Despite bashing them through jagged rocks at speed off-road, we never experienced any tire failure. For an all-around tire that’s suitable for a daily-driven rig, the MTZ is one of our favorites.
