Harbor Freight Aluminum Racing Jack - Tool Of The MonthPosted in Product Reviews on March 6, 2014
Sooner or later every home mechanic comes to the realization that a rolling floor jack is a good thing to have around the house. It makes those chores of changing or rotating tires so much quicker and is an invaluable tool for all manner of lifting a vehicle for maintenance or suspension-related projects.
Harbor Freight Tools offers good number of floor jack models, but we recently acquired one of their aluminum racing jacks. The frames on these models are constructed largely of aluminum to save weight over similar steel models. We like the lighter weight when we’re working in the garage and when using one mounted in a vehicle that we take out in the dirt.
The aluminum jacks range in capacity from 1.5 to 3 tons. The model we’re using is the #68051, which is a 2-ton model. Its size seems perfect for most off-road trucks running larger tires. Lift height ranges from a low 3.25 inches up to 18.5 inches. Their Rapid Pump design uses dual pumps to raise the jack in only a few full strokes.
We found the jack was quick to use and the descent release predictable. Out of the box, the wheels rolled smoothly and the large jack head with rubber pad made aligning on a lift point easy. Actually, by the time you read this, this jack will have been mounted in the bed of our FAST-150 project truck with a DMZ Fab aluminum jack skid as a light-weight recovery tool with full jack capabilities.
