August 2011 New Products

Downsized
Downsizing usually sucks but the new mini impact tools from Ingersoll Rand don’t. They weigh a paltry 1½ pounds and can deliver up to 45 lb-ft of torque. Now 45 lb-ft might not sound like much, but with the smaller size, it can be used for many of the jobs you use your air ratchet for. It will just get the jobs done quicker. Information: Ingersoll Rand, 704/655-4000, ingersollrand.com

Affordable Comfort
If you want comfort in your Jeep without breaking the bank, Race-Trim’s new line of seats might be for you. They feature fully welded and painted frames and dense foam cushioning with a weatherproof suspended bladder. The seats accept five-point harnesses and have the standard four mounting tabs. Slides and mounting kits are available. Information: EMPI Inc., 800/666-3674, empius.com

Shift Eze
If you are looking for a gated shifter for your slushbox, look no further than Wide Open Designs. The Sidewinder shifter is available for popular Chevy and Ford transmissions and is almost impossible to jam. The heavy-duty metal gates and metal stick couple with a marine-grade cable and all needed mounting and attachment hardware for one low price. Information: Wide Open Designs, 615/962-9135, wideopendesigns.com

Rancho Armor
The suspension company that we all know has expanded its Rockgear line of armor and trail gear to include the ’97-’06 TJ and ’04-’06 LJ. Now available are front and rear bumpers, front Dana 30 and rear Dana 44 axle skidplates, and an oil pan protection kit. Front differential glide plates and Dana 30, 35, and 44 differential covers are also available. Powdercoated tubular steel doors are also now available for the TJ and LJ. Information: Rancho, 734/384-7804, gorancho.com

Canned
Applying your own bedliner is often a nasty, messy process. But it doesn’t have to be thanks to PlastiKote’s Perfect Finish liner. The spray-paint-like aerosol can features a special valve and unique trigger that make it easy to apply and keep your hands clean at the same time. It permanently bonds to the surface, is flexible, and has recycled rubber granules embedded in it for traction. It dries to a hard non-skid surface that is gasoline resistant. Information: PlastiKote, 866/222-8714, plastikote.com

Fuel Fixer
If you are having fuel issues with your Jeep, perhaps the RPM300 from Filter Solution Technologies is for you. It can flow up to 300 gallons per minute so it can feed even the hungriest of engines. The filter can filter down to 4 microns without restriction, which is far better than the factory filter can claim. It also can separate water from your fuel with a “quiet zone” for water and heavy contaminants to get trapped in. Information: FST Performance, 407/323-0122, fstperformance.com

Green Oil
We’ve had it about up to our ears with the word “green.” We’ve been recycling Jeeps and Jeep parts for longer than most “green” proponents have been alive. Be that as it may, Valvoline’s Next Gen oil is a good idea. The company uses a 50-percent recycled oil base which is our kind of recycling. The oil still meets all of Valvoline’s exacting standards and features the regular additive packages with the benefit of less environmental impact. Information: Valvoline Products, 800/327-8242, valvoline.com

Resistor Wire-less
If you are swapping a later model HEI ignition into your Jeep and have a resistor wire in the ignition circuit, you’ll need to get rid of it. Finding the section of wire to get rid of can be a pain. Using the Pertronix power relay kit makes it easy. The 30-amp pre-wired setup is compact and can be used with just about any aftermarket ignition system. It can also be used to provide full voltage to just about any accessory you want to wire up. Information: Pertronix, 909/599-5955, pertronix.com

Switch Cleanly
It is always a challenge to mount aftermarket switches in our Jeeps. Anyone can just slap a switch in, but making it look good and last for the life of the Jeep can often take more time than it’s worth. Enter Prime 4x4 with its line of switch plates and covers for the ’96-and-earlier Cherokee and Comanche. USB chargers, 12-volt outlets, switches, and in-cab winch controls are but some of the available options. Information: Prime 4x4, 801/769-1841, prime4x4.com
