Off-road enthusiasts are a unique bunch. There’s nothing better than getting out in the dirt, mud, or sand and ripping some rooster tails or tackling a challenging course. From lifted daily drivers with serious suspension, tires, and wheels to full-on trailered off-road rigs ready to tackle anything, our hobby has a slice for every person and every budget.

A big part of the off-road culture happens to be scale-model, radio-controlled trucks. Scale crawlers, rock racers, and just good old 4WD monster trucks can be seen running at the remote commands of adults and kids alike at major events like King of the Hammers, Moab, Easter Jeep Safari, and the Baja 500. These trucks offer a ton of fun during downtime at events and have become so popular they are showing up all over the place. We felt it was high time we took a look at them.

Enter Axial Racing. Axial has been around since 2005, supporting the R/C hobby with all manner of parts, but it was the revolutionary AX-10 crawler released in 2008 that put the company on the map as a serious player in the off-road truck arena. Since that first release, Axial has been going nonstop building some of the best off-road R/C trucks available. Fully licensed features like wheels, tires, bodies, and other scale accessories make these some of the most accurate-looking and capable trucks that can handle jumps, tumbles, and more—things that those “toy” trucks from the big chain stores simply can’t do.

One of Axial Racing’s offerings that we have been having fun with lately is the Yeti SCORE Trophy Truck. Based on the Axial Yeti rock racing buggy, the fully licensed SCORE Trophy Truck features a true-to-scale solid rear axle with independent front suspension just like the big guys running Baja! The fulltime 4WD chassis has tons of power thanks to a brushless electric motor, offering up plenty of speed for fast runs across dry riverbeds, desert dunes, or your backyard. Jumping is no problem with the Yeti SCORE Trophy Truck either. The long-travel suspension with scale aluminum King shocks and Method Racing wheels wrapped in BFG Baja T/A KR2 tires soak up the bumps with ease.

Take a look at the scale details and built-tough construction of the Axial Yeti SCORE Trophy Truck in the photos here, and hit your local hobby shop to check them out yourself. They are a ton of fun for the whole family. I should know—my wife has confiscated this one as her own after helping me take these photos. That’s how much fun she had during the photo shoot with the truck!

The Axial Yeti SCORE Trophy Truck comes finished in this modern-looking off-road body in bright green. Axial’s licensed technical partners are shown on the preinstalled sponsor decals.

Once it was out of the box we couldn’t get over the awesome scale Method 105 replica wheels wrapped in scale versions of BFGoodrich Baja (and Baja-winning) T/A KR2 rubber.

At the rear of the tube frame is this scale spare tire holder just like the real Trophy Trucks. The spare wheel and tire is fully functional and removable if you somehow get a flat on the trail!

The Axial Yeti SCORE Trophy Truck’s body includes preinstalled headlight and taillight buckets that accept LED lights. Axial offers an LED light kit that plugs right in, allowing the fun to extend into the night.

The chassis of the Axial Yeti SCORE Trophy Truck in all its naked glory. The battery (not included) sits in a tray just behind the motor and transmission to keep the chassis balanced. The licensed King shocks, with their familiar blue color, are easy to spot.

The included interior comes painted and features more scale decals, including Sparco harness decals. In the spare parts bag are a few optional helmet styles to personalize your ride.

Just like your fullsize truck can be upgraded, Axial offers plenty of optional parts to upgrade these trucks, from aluminum suspension parts to licensed Rigid Industries LED light bars, scale accessories, and more. You can find optional parts to make your rig perform better and look its best. Shown here are Axial’s four-link mounts and servo mount, both made from 6061-T6 hard anodized aluminum.

The scale King shocks that come on the Axial Yeti SCORE Trophy Truck handle well out of the box, and Axial even offers aluminum King-logo shock caps and threaded adjuster collars to dress them up. The optional aluminum threaded shocks seen here feature hard anodized shock bodies, titanium nitride–coated (TIN) shock shafts, different-length rod ends to adjust ride height, and more.

For those who really want to stand out from the crowd, Axial offers a retro body for the Yeti SCORE Trophy Truck. The body comes in clear polycarbonate with a full set of decals/stripes and body accessories like exhaust tips and hood vents. Simply hit up your hobby shop for some polycarbonate paint (you paint the body from the inside), and apply the decals for a truly original look no one else will have.
