The original F-head four-cylinder engine has been replaced by a TBI GM 4.3-liter V-6. This engine is mated to a rebuilt TH350 transmission and a Dana 20 transfer case. Bailey purchased the V-6 from a gent who rebuilt it for a project before deciding to go in a different direction (and his wife wanted it gone). It's out of an '89 1/2-ton Chevy pickup and is almost completely stock with the exception of a custom dual exhaust with Flowmaster 40 Series mufflers. An Optima YellowTop battery provides juice, while a heavy-duty cooler keeps the transmission happy. Speaking of the transmission, it rests on a custom crossmember that Bailey fabbed. The Dana 20 is out of a '72 CJ-5. Protecting the underbody is a custom 1/4-inch-thick steel skidplate that runs from the engine to the transfer case.
