The ability to run the tie rod in a dual-sheer configuration was the second reason we went to rod ends over tie-rod ends. A tie-rod end will only ever be single-sheer, which can never be as strong as dual-sheer. GenRight offers this kit that works with Currie axles and includes 3⁄4-inch-diameter bolts and spacers to tie the cast steering mount to the steel upper arm. Since we weren’t sure what we were doing about steering when the axles were built, we had some work to do. After drilling the tapered bottom hole out to 3⁄4-inch, we stuck the bolt through, made sure it was square, and used the old spray-paint-marking method to mark the underside of the arm.
