Lift legislation rarely addresses center-of-gravity issues. Massachusetts is one of the states that take vehicle wheelbase and track width into account. Allowable mechanical lift is determined by multiplying wheelbase by wheel track and dividing by a safety factor of 2,200. New Jersey requires inspection-station tilt-ramp testing for high-rise vehicles, which are those with more than 4 inches of lift.
