“On the next Geraldo: When Ammeters Go Bad!” A red lead runs from the alternator charging post through the fuse block to one terminal of the ammeter. Full alternator amperage passes through the ammeter, then out to a yellow lead which takes it to the fuse box and then back to the starter solenoid where it finally charges the battery. Smart ammeter owners pull their leads off the ammeter, connect them together, tape them up, and never have to deal with a mess like this. We had melted wires and plastic connectors from the alternator through the engine harness, into the fuse box, dash harness, ignition switch, and even headlight switch.
