Once we got the FSJ rewired, we prepared to install the MSD Ready-to-Run distributor (PN 8523). Rather than find top dead center and all that jazz, we popped the distributor cap and noted to which terminal the rotor was pointing. In our case, it was seven. Then we used a long straight edge to mark the rotor position so we could drop in the new MSD distributor with the same clocking. We put the number seven wire on the same terminal and then installed the rest per the AMC V-8’s 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 firing order.
