The charcoal canister is part of the emissions system, so if it’s missing or damaged, the vehicle will not be able to pass a smog inspection if required by your state. Since it’s mounted down low in harm’s way, stick your head under and inspect its plastic body for signs of cracks or trail damage. Also, inspect the fuel tank skidplate for severe gouging and make sure the diff covers aren’t smashed or peeled back and leaking.
