Arriving at XJ owner’s house, we found the J10 on a battery charger and one of the front tires was totally dry-rotted and flat. The owner had cleaned up the interior at some point and lined it with paint-on bedliner. He had also put in a new distributor, plug wires, spark plugs, and upper and lower radiator hoses. The AMC 360 V-8 ran, but the very flat tire rendered Piggy undriveable for more than a few feet. There was some evidence of a past underhood fire, and the keys had been lost and the column violated to allow the Jeep to start. Despite these issues, the body was almost perfectly straight, with only a little surface rust. We had to have it.
