Once everything was tacked together, we measured what seemed like another few hundred times before burning anything home. The top of the formed-plate shock mount rests about 3⁄4-inch below the hood when it is closed. It allows a shock to be used that is almost 12 inches longer than stock and together with our Wagoneer springs allows a 36-inch-long shock. Of course, that will get shorter as the springs settle, but not by much. So, unless we do something drastic with the lower mount on the new axles, we are square in custom-length territory, which just doesn’t make sense for this rig.
