The LT-1 V-8 is out of a Chevy Caprice and with the high alternator mount on the passenger side, we weren’t sure we were going to be able to clear the straight cross tube. We did, but by only 3⁄4-inch. Remember the clearance at the shock mount on the hood? If it weren’t for the body lift, we’d have had to either move this tube elsewhere or more likely gone for the formed one for clearance. The LS engines we’ve looked at don’t have an alternator up this high so it should be no problem for GM Gen III/IV engines.
