2002 Ford Ranger FX4 - Project RangeRunner, Part 2
13.)
With our shiny new blower sitting pretty on top of the engine, Dave began to reinstall various brackets and reattach vacuum lines and vapor hoses.
14.)
Next, Dave relocated the stock brake booster hose to the top of our blower.
15.)
With the blower unit carefully positioned on the discharge manifold, Dave added the EGR regulator bracket and tightened down the supercharger with the supplied bolts.
16.)
The EGR valve also had to be relocated. With the Explorer Express kit, it mounts 90 degrees relative to its stock position.
17.)
With that out of the way, Dave reinstalled the EGR Tube to the blower unit and snugged it down.
18.)
Dave then reinstalled the factory computer harness before mounting the stock throttle body to the supercharger's inlet.
19.)
The next challenge was getting the new serpentine belt correctly routed and around the supercharger pulley.
20.)
Before moving on to wiring, Dave buttoned up the install by reinstalling vacuum hoses, the factory vapor hose, PCV valve, coil, and driver-side plug wires, along with routing the throttle and cruise control cables on the throttle body.
21.)
Using only highest OEM-quality Weatherpack and butt connectors, the bulk of the rewiring was a cinch. The directions included in the kit make splicing in to your harness a pain-free event.
22.)
Wiring spliced and routed, Project RangeRunner was ready for Dave to install the new MAF on to the Explorer Express heat shield, before dropping it in to place with a performance air filter.
23.)
Once the intake tract was in place, our boosted engine was starting to look like a running engine again.
24.)
The last step before we could fire up the engine and go for a testdrive was to reprogram the factory ECU with a custom tune supplied by BamaChips on an SCT X-Calibrator box. A turn of the key resulted in the engine firing on the first try and distinct supercharger whine emanating from Project RangeRunner's engine compartment.
