Project Chevy M1008 Front View
This should've been a picture of the M1008 victoriously climbing a hill, or something to that effect. Instead, here it sits pouting in a corner, not even running. That's after giving it new front tires, a new radiator, and glass in the doors, plus installing the dump-bed conversion. But we'll teach it a lesson-it can sit for another several weeks. Until it shapes up, or we decide to fix it anyway.

Project Chevy M1008 Window
Problems: No charging system, no side windows. Solution: This eco-friendly charging setup donated by a distant neighbor has served us well. It's just a matter of remembering to move it from one battery to the other every now and then. Plus, it protects the interior from damaging UV rays.

With the bed off, it was much easier to install this Valley receiver hitch since it required some drilling. It's rated at 7,500 pounds without weight distributing, which should be sufficient for this pickup's duties, and it also serves as a rear bumper. Notice the weird exhaust system with one side being 2 1/4 inches and the other 2 1/2.

Project Chevy M1008 Exhaust
To make the components for the dump-bed hydraulics fit, it was easiest to remove the funky exhaust system from the cab back. It won't be a big deal to weld up a short system that exits in front of the tires from the leftovers, but for now there are borrowed glasspack mufflers held in place with bungees. They're quiet, though, which makes us wonder if we should even bother with mufflers and just put screens over the pipe ends as spark arrestors. We'll worry about that once it runs again.
