Part 9: A Win-Win With LED Headlamps

  • Here you can see the new LED headlamps prior to installation. Notice the vibrantly-jeweled lenses. They appear to sparkle similarly to those fancy clear taillights you see on high-end luxury SUVs. Each lamp has a three wire plug-'n'-play connection protruding from the back of the housing.

  • 1. The back side of the LED headlamp reveals cooling fins to help expel heat produced by the internal driver circuitry. Because of this heat, the back half of the housings are made from anodized aluminum to further improve heat dissipation. As such, the new lamps are also noticeably heavier than the old units they replace.

  • 2. To start the installation process, we simply removed the factory headlight bezel by unscrewing three #15 Torx screws from the perimeter of the lense. Once the screws were removed, a slight tug freed the plastic bezel from the grille. Next, we removed three additional #15 Torx screws from the lense retaining ring to free the factory lenses from the bucket area.
