Four Wheeler Homepage: 4x4 Trucks, SUVs, & Off Road Vehicles

July 2002 Reader's Rigs

Wicked Wagoneer
Nick Morgan from Morganton, North Carolina, built this cool '80 Jeep Wagoneer. A spring-over was performed to help achieve 12 inches of lift. The new suspension helps to clear the 35x16 Boggers on 15x12 Clement wheels. Under the hood rests a 360 V-8 that sends power to a T-18 tranny backed by a Dana 20 T-case. Axles are Dana 44s front and rear, equipped with Lock-Right lockers and 4.10 gears. For recovery a Ramsey 12,000-pound winch sits on a custom-made front bumper.

Muck Runner
Ryan Stephenson, of Algonac, Michigan, built his '73 Ford F-100 to blast through plenty of deep mud. To get the Ford up in the air, a 6-inch suspension lift was installed, and so was a 3-inch body lift. Enough clearance was made for 38-inch Super Swampers to help propel the big Ford through the muck. To keep the big meats turning, a 351 Windsor was swapped into place while the Dana 44 front and Ford 9-inch rear axles were equipped with 4.10 gears. Other mods include an in-cab cage along with three bucket seats to keep the occupants in place.

From the Big Island
Hailing from the beautiful and lush island of Hawaii are Tim Braden and his brand-new Dodge Dakota. The first dollar spent was for a 5-inch lift. Then came a set of 35-inch tires. To turn the big meats, the gears were changed out from 3.55s to a set of 4.10s. A Borla exhaust system was put into place to help the 4.7L V-8 breathe a little better. For all those days spent surfing, Wet Okole seat covers protect the interior.

Built
Bruce Rich from Jackman, Maine has done plenty of work to his '79 1/2-ton Chevy. The 350 V-8 was bored 0.40 over and equipped with a high-lift cam, new intake, and a 600-cfm Edelbrock carb with a K&N air filter. A well-built Turbo 350 transmission and an NP203 makes up the rest of the drivetrain. Axles consist of corporate 12-bolts front and rear with 4.10 gears. To lift the truck, a 4-inch Rancho kit was put into place, allowing fitment of 35-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrains.

Mix and Match
Michael Barnes of Vidor, Texas, was kind enough to build this truck for his girlfriend. It's a collection of parts from other rigs. The truck started out life as a '75 Chevy 4x4. The drivetrain consists of a '98 350 V-8 sending power to a 700-R4 out of a '90 truck. The cab is off of an '81 while the bed is a stepside from a '95 donor truck. A front clip from a '91 Suburban was then used to finish off the body. Finally a coat of white paint was fogged on to complete the truck.

Romping Ranger
Hamersville, Ohio resident Jeff Elliott is the proud owner of this '96 Ford Ranger 4x4. To gain a little more altitude a set of 2-inch Trailmaster leveling coils were used, along with a 3-inch body lift. Enough room was made to run 33x9.50 Wild Country tires controlled by Rancho RS 5000 shocks at every corner. A set of chrome nerf bars with a rollbar were used to spruce up the exterior. Inside the truck rests a booming audio system complete with Pioneer 10-inch woofers and a 460-watt amplifier.
