BACK IN BLACK
The latest project for Jack Wark of Beaverton, Michigan is this '90 Chevy truck that started life as a two-wheel-drive 1/2-ton. He converted it to a 4x4 with parts from a '78 Blazer donor truck, which contributed a TH350 transmission and NP203 T-case to help the later-model 4x2 Chevy become a 4x4. In the process, the IFS was ditched and replaced with leaf springs and a 10-bolt axle with 4.10 gears, while a 14-bolt found its way out back. The new suspension clears way for 36-inch tires on 15x10 Ultra aluminum wheels.
JUMBO JEEP
Hailing from Eden, North Carolina are Kenneth Jones and his massive '80 Jeep CJ-7. A full 12 inches of lift makes way for 44-inch Ground Hawg tires. Somehow surviving under the load of the massive meats is a Dana 44 rear axle and a Dana 30 front axle. Power comes from a 304 V-8 that is attached to an automatic transmission, which sends power to those poor, overtaxed axles through a NP205 transfer case.
BIG BLUE OVAL
Garret Grant of Tucson, Arizona owns this fine example of a '98 F-150. He equipped it with a 6-inch Fabtech suspension system, which cleared the way for a set of 35-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrains wrapped around 16x8 Mickey Thompson Classic II aluminum wheels. Up front, a Trans4mer brush- and grilleguard from Warn was bolted into position to protect the Ford's nose. Under the hood rests a 5.4L V-8 that has been left alone so far.
CALIFORNIA JIMMY
Robert Johnson of Clovis, California originally bought this '86 GMC Jimmy for his wife. He kept it fairly stock but still has lots of fun with it. The front springs were re-arched and treated to an add-a-leaf. Four-inch blocks were then used in the back to level the truck, and a 3-inch body lift was added for even more clearance. A set of 4.88 gears was put in the diffs to help spin the 35-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrains. Robert, looking on the bright side of what almost always is a messy business, says now that he is divorced, he can spend more money on the truck, and plans to add 38s and crawler gears.
NORTHERN TJ
Aaron Dockendork cruises around the trails near his home in Woodbury, Minnesota in this '01 Jeep TJ. Elevating it and providing flex is a 4-inch-lift Skyjacker suspension. Traction is provided by 33-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrains on 15x10 American Racing wheels. Armor comes in the form of rock rails and bumpers from Burnsville Off Road. Helping the inline-six breathe a little better is a Borla exhaust and an AEM air intake.
