He's a Keeper
June Watson of Rancho Cordova, California bought this low-mileage '96 Grand Cherokee from a local dealership. Within a month, her boyfriend Matt--shown here driving the rig--convinced June to let him fix a few things. The results are impressive. A stock drivetrain gets help from a Lock-Right up front and a Trac-Lok in the rear. A Rubicon Express long-arm kit provides plenty of flex for weekend outings. An ARB front bumper houses a Warn 9,000-pound winch. Custom-built rock sliders, diff guards and half doors make this clean SUV a desirable trail rig by any standard. Currently June runs Goodyear MTR rubber. This picture was taken on the Fordyce Creek trail during California's famed Sierra Trek.
Three-Wheel Drive
Cory Thompson from Winnabow, North Carolina demonstrates a three-wheel burnout in his '95 Chevy Z71 pickup. The stock 350 small-block gets help from a pair of Hedman headers and a throttle-body spacer. Power is sent to a built automatic transmission and out through a stock transfer case to a Dana 60 rear axle featuring a Detroit Locker and 4.10:1 gearing. The IFS front setup remains open, with 4.10:1 gears. Cory runs 39.5-inch Boggers with an unlisted suspension lift.
Backwoods Toy
This '84 Toyota SR5 belongs to Navin Reddy of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It has a stock 22R four-cylinder powerplant that turns 33-inch Swampers on American Racing wheels. To clear the Swampers, Navin installed a 3-inch body lift. Who says you have to have big power to have fun in the mud?
