Civilian Princess
This 1977 Volvo 303 is owned by Cole Wilson of Yakima, Washington. Cole runs a stock 3.0L straight-six engine, which may not seem like much of a powerplant, but what this ex-military hauler lacks in power, it makes up for with axles. The stock portal axles offer a whopping 21 inches of ground clearance at each pumpkin. Each are equipped with vacuum-operated lockers that keep the 305/75/16 Trelleborg tires turning. Now re-appointed for fun trips, this seven-passenger Swedish expedition vehicle can be seen on trails all over the Pacific Northwest. With a top speed of 70 mph, Cole assures us he isn't in a hurry when driving the Princess.
Big Blue
A.J. Condon of Manchester, Maryland, sent in this photo of his 1984 CJ-7. It has an AMC 360 V-8 mated to a Dodge NV4500 transmission and NP205 transfer case. Dual front steering Rockwells outfitted with full hydraulic steering turn 44-inch TSL Swampers on 15x12 Stazworks double bead-locked wheels. The rig rides on Jeep J-20 rear leaf springs. A Warn 8,000-pound winch is on standby for extraction duties.
Air Time
Bill Riservato sent us this shot of his 1993 Bronco on the Moab Rim Trail. It's powered by a 5.8L engine equipped with a Jacobs ignition system, Gibson headers, and a K&N filter. It has a 4-inch Rancho lift, 4.10:1 gears with a Detroit Locker in the back and a limited-slip up front. Thirty three-inch tires and lots of skidplates keep this Temecula, California, resident wheeling trails all over the West.
New York Taco
Joseph Piombo of Long Island, New York, sent us this shot of his 1999 Toyota Tacoma V-6. Modifications include a 6-inch Fabtech lift, a 3-inch Performance Accessories body lift, a set of 35x12.50 BFG MT KOs mounted on 15x8 black steel U.S. Wheels. Other features include onboard air, stainless steel brake lines, ceramic brake pads and drilled/slotted rotors, and a pair of custom rock sliders.
