Point and Shoot

1988 Cheyv S 10 Buggy Passenger Side View

Lynn Davison of Bellingham, Washington, drives this highly modified '88 Chevy S-10 wherever he pleases. We're not surprised by looking at the truck's specs. The engine is a 4.3L V-6, bored .030 over and sporting TRW flat-top pistons, followed by a 700R4 with a B&M ratchet shifter. An NP205 transfer case splits the torque. Up front, a beefed Dana 44 uses Superior axleshafts, CTM U-joints, 5.13:1 gearing, and a spool. The rear axle is a custom Ford 9-inch with 5.13s and a spool. The suspension is comprised of a custom four-link front and rear, with Rancho RS 9000 shocks. Lynn runs 37-inch Boggers with custom bead locks to help the truck hook up in the mud. A Warn 8274 winch lives at each end, and an onboard Ready Welder is on hand in case Lynn encounters a problem. Other mods include onboard air, full hydraulic steering, and a custom exocage.

Ripple Effect

1979 Ford F150 Front View Snow

This '79 F-150 belongs to Kory Dyk of Dillon, Montana. The truck has a 468ci V-8, C6 automatic, Dana 24 divorce-mounted transfer case, a Dana 44 front axle, and Dana 60 rear with a limited-slip. The suspension has been beefed up with 7-inch Alcan leaf springs and a set of Rancho RS 5000 shocks. A set of 38-inch TSL Swampers mounted to Rockcrawler wheels provide traction, and a pair of custom bumpers and a custom flatbed add utility to this tried-and-true platform. Kory says he uses this truck mainly for mud bogging in drained irrigation ponds.

Backwoods Toy

 1990 Toyota Pickup Front View

Jon Prather Cobb of Chico, California, sent in this picture of his '90 Toyota pickup. Sporting a custom solid axle swap up front, this rig looks to be the perfect combination of trail-ready and pavement-friendly. For gearing, Jon added a Marlin Crawler dual transfer-case setup with 2.28:1 in the front case and 4.7:1 in the rear case. A pair of ARB Air Lockers and 4.88:1 axle gears help this rig to crawl anywhere Jon points it. The 35-inch Super Swamper SSR tires are mounted to American Racing wheels, and a pair of custom nerf bars and rear corner rocker guards protect the body from boulder bites.

Montero Passion

1995 Mitsubishi Montero Front Drivers Side View

Craig Kutta resides in Chandler, Arizona, where the 'wheeling trails outnumber paved roads. This picture shows Craig's '95 Mitsubishi Montero on one of the many trails Craig loves to run on his days off work. The rig has a stock drivetrain featuring a 3.5L V-6, an automatic transmission, and a factory rear locking diff. Craig lists additional features as KYB shocks, Superwinch manual locking hubs, a K&N air filter and 33-inch BFG A/Ts on 8-inch steel wheels. Having been a Mitsubishi technician for more than 23 years, Craig admits he's biased to Monteros. This is his fifth one.

Justin's Yota

 1991 Toyota Pickup Front View

Young Justin Gable from Chapin, South Carolina, sent in this shot of his '91 Toyota pickup. It features a 2-inch Rancho suspension lift along with 3 inches of body lift. Combined, this allows Justin to run 33-inch Super Swamper SSRs without rubbing. The meats are wrapped around Mickey Thompson Classic wheels. The rest of the rig is stock for now.

A Toy for Two

1987 Toyota Pickup Drivers Side View

Heather Callahan submitted this shot of her boyfriend's truck. It belongs to David Perkins of Meridian, Mississippi. It started life as a stock '87 Toyota pickup. David started working on the 22R four-cylinder to get more power. First, David had the block bored .040 over. Then he ported and polished the head and added custom LC Engineering pistons, a lightened crank, and a Comp camshaft. Next he added an LC Engineering Cam Adjuster, a polished intake manifold, and an LC long-tube header. David upgraded the stock clutch to a Centerforce Phase 3. He regeared both differentials to 5.29:1s from Richmond Gear. A Detroit Locker was added to the rear axle, and a 6-inch Superlift suspension system helps the truck clear 35-inch TSL Boggers on Ultra wheels. Heather puts up with David's expensive Toyota addiction because she gets to drive the truck once in a while, too.
