Homebuilt Jeepster

 1970 Jeepster Front View

Juston Read of Reno, Nevada, bought this custom '70 Jeepster stock, and then he completely rebuilt it in his own garage. This picture was taken on the famous Moab Rim Trail during Easter Jeep Safari 2006.The Jeep features a 4.3L Vortec V-6 connected to an SM465 transmission. From there, torque is divided by a trusty Dana 20 transfer case, where a pair of Tom Wood's CV driveshafts transfer power to dual Toyota pickup axles, each built up with third members out of a '90 FJ-80. Both differentials have 4.10:1 gearing and ARB Air Lockers installed in them. Thirty-spline Longfield axles and custom-built axle trusses on each make up a potent combo for this trail Commando. A set of 37-inch Goodyear MT/R tires provide the traction. Sweet rig, Juston!

Have Guns, Will Travel

1990 Russian Uas Drivers Side View Army

This '90 Russian Uaz was built by Operations Sergeant George M. Shumaker and his Command Sergeant Major (the skinny guy). This abandoned Iraqi military vehicle was adopted and rebuilt in spare time while the two were stationed in Iraq. George gave the little Uaz a 3-inch suspension lift so that he could fit a set of 30-inch BFG All-Terrain tires. Other oddities include a Humvee brushguard (narrowed 2 feet, of course), diamond-plate floorboards and side accent pieces, a siren and PA system, and a bikini top fashioned out of leftover mosquito netting. Way to improvise, George! But we sure are glad that Uncle Sam provides you guys with more sophisticated equipment out there.

Rubicon on the Rubicon

2006 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited Drivers Side View

This '06 Rubicon Unlimited belongs to Sam and Sheyl Burgess of Turlock, California. It features a Rubicon Express 5.5-inch long-arm suspension. A little extra height is afforded by a pair of 2-inch coil spacers up front. This change in elevation makes room for 35-inch Mickey Thompson Baja Claws mounted on Rockcrawler wheels. Other trail essentials include Poison Spyder rock sliders, ORF rockcrawler doors, a Powertank, onboard air, homemade bumpers, an Airaid intake setup, and a Flowmaster exhaust. This shot was fittingly taken on the legendary Rubicon Trail.

SoCal K-5

1987 Chevy K5 Blazer Rear View

Mason Copeland lives in San Diego, California. This is his '87 Chevy K-5 Blazer. Modifications include a set of 15-inch aluminum wheels and 33-inch Kumho Road Venture tires. Trimmed front fenders and wheels spacers allow fitment without any suspension lift. A stock 305 V-8 with a TH700R4 connected to an NP208 make up the drivetrain. Otherwise, a Flowmaster muffler and aluminum transmission cooler are the only other upgrades Mason has done to this rig.

Boggin Bronc'

1989 Ford Bronco Front View Mud

Jason Moore of Palatka, Florida, sent in this shot of his '89 Ford Bronco. A stock 5.0L V-8 with over 200,000 miles on the ticker continues to motivate this beast. A set of Ford Motorsport underdrive pulleys, dual electric fans, and a K&N air filter help the high-mileage mill make use of what's left. Dual batteries and a 130-amp alternator keep electrics in full effect, while a 2.5-inch dual exhaust system with custom H-pipe and 14-inch glasspacks expel the fumes. Underneath, there's a solid-axle swap with leaf springs, which provide about 8 inches of lift over stock. The rear leaf springs were made to match by Skyjacker. Shocks are Rancho RS 5000s with 14 inches of travel each. For axles, Jason runs a high-pinion Dana 60 up front complete with 35-spline inners and 30-spline outers; 4.56:1 gearing and a Spicer Trac-Lok round out the package. The heavier rear axle is a Dana 70, also with 4.56:1 gears and Powr-Lok differential. The truck's interior is completely gutted and fully Herculined to make post-bog cleanup easy.
