Rocky Mountain CJ
Curtis A. Brown of Leadville, Colorado, sent in this shot of his '55 Jeep CJ-5. This rig started as a frame-up restoration project. Now, it's a daily driver with a 5.3L Vortec V-8 under the hood. From there, power is sent through a Ford T-18 transmission to a Dana 18 transfer case. A Warn/Saturn overdrive provides an extra 25 percent reduction in gearing. The 35-inch Pro Comp ATs are mounted to aluminum Outlaw wheels. A rear Dana 44 is equipped with 4.27:1 gearing and an Ox Locker. The front Dana 30 wide-track axle is out of an '86 CJ-7, which helps add stability on sidehills.
Awesome Twosome
Joe Cummings and roommate Chris Strobel are from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Joe's '02 Dodge features a 6-inch Fabtech suspension system and a 3-inch body lift. That setup clears 37-inch BFG M-T tires. The stock 4.7L V-8 receives help from a set of 4.56:1 Yukon gears. The '00 Ford F-250 rides on 8-inch Superlift leaf springs and 37-inch Cooper Discover STT tires. Chris says the 7.3L Power Stroke engine provides plenty of torque, even in stock form, to keep the big meats turning.
Off-Duty K5
Tom Skellham of Fort Story, Virginia, is a Specialist in the U.S. Army. When he's not out on patrol, he spends his time working on and wheeling his '88 K-5 Blazer. Powered by a stock 350 V-8, this rig receives help from a K&N filter, Summit shorty headers, a custom Y-pipe, and a mandrel-bent after-cat exhaust system. For traction Tom added a Powertrax No-Slip differential in the rear. The rig rides on 33-inch Mickey Thompson Baja Claw radials mounted to Rock Crawler wheels, which Tom claims he purchased with his re-enlistment money.
Block Walking GMC
Jeremiah Johnson of Godfrey, Illinois, uses this '98 GMC Sierra 1/2-ton as his daily driver. Jeremiah lifted the truck 11 inches in the front and 10 inches out back. The lift clears 38.5-inch Super Swamper TSL SXs without issue. A stock Vortec 350 V-8 lives underhood and is equipped with Flowmaster mufflers and a K&N air filter.
