2008 Toyota Sequoia Passenger Side View Lake
Toyota provided us with both a base-engined 4.7L (blue Sequoia) towing a 5,100-pound ski boat and a 5.7L-equipped silver unit hitched to a 6,200-pound toy. We were allowed to drive around a five-mile course and back the boats down the double-curbed launch ramp. The large rearview mirrors were better than many pickups we've towed with and the V-8 engines had little trouble yanking the boats around. The shifts of the six-speed tranny go almost undetected, but we felt the 5.7 was a bit noisy under full throttle with lots of underhood valve noise. Perhaps production units will address this.

Toyota was quick to admit that the new Sequoia is not designed for serious 'wheeling, and we would agree. Nevertheless, they provided us with an "off-road course" consisting of a dirt road with some dug-out holes along a powerline. We still managed to challenge the traction control and kick up a little North Carolina dust.

2008 Toyota Sequoia Rear Suspension
The 2008 Sequoia utilizes an all-new independent rear suspension (IRS). The diff is an aluminum housing enclosing a 10-inch ring gear. Platinum vehicles feature a load-leveling air suspension which is optional on the Limited and SR5. The low profile of the entire suspension package allows for all that seat room inside.

2008 Toyota Sequoia Seat Fold Down
Look Ma, no need to remove any bulky seats to haul Grandma's chest. The third-row seat folds flat via a power button while the second row lies down with a flick of the magic lever. There is no need to remove any headrests either.
