The new Dodge Power Wagon certainly looks as though it's king of the hill when it comes to off-highway-ready fullsize pickups. It's going to be available in either regular cab longbed or Quad Cab shortbox configurations, both on a 140.5-inch wheelbase.

The Power Wagon rides on LT285/70R-17 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A radials. These 33-inch tires are mounted to Power Wagon-specific 17x8 Alcoa forged aluminum wheels that feature a wheel bead seat that has been modified to help retain the tire bead when the tires are aired down for trail use. The wheels are polished for beauty, just like the Four Wheeler staff.

Dodge says the Power Wagon climbed 32 inches up a 20-degree ramp with the front antiroll bar disconnected and 23 inches with it connected. This translates to 460 points and 655 points, respectively.

The rear axle is the standard disc-brake-equipped 10.5-inch American Axle-produced unit found on the Ram 2500, but under the Power Wagon it has been stuffed with the TracRite GTL electric locker, which functions as a limited-slip when unlocked. The axle also receives larger-diameter axleshafts as found in Ram diesel applications. Bilstein shocks and significantly revised rear leaf springs that provide 1.4 inches of lift round out the rear suspension upgrades.

From this angle you can see a variety of Power Wagon-specific components, including the Warn-built 12,000-pound-capacity winch, the Smart Bar electronic disconnecting antiroll bar, the TracRite EL-equipped front axle and the steering damper skidplate.

We slammed the Power Wagon's all-new underbody protection into the Utah slick-rock, so we can vouch for its durability. Here you can see the beefy way Dodge engineers used fore-aft bars to tie the transfer case and fuel-tank skidplates together to prevent rocks from wedging between the plates.

The switches for the electronic lockers and electronic disconnecting front antiroll bar are integrated into the center stack on the dash. We found them to be placed well and simple to use.
